This song is a great preparation for fluency, articulation, and voice activities. It's also a song that's just plain fun to listen to.  This song is intended to help you and your child visualize some of the basic mechanics of speech by comparing the speaking process to fueling up a car.  The brain is like the starter, where the word begins.  The air in your lungs is like the gasoline that fuels the larynx (voicebox) or "engine" and the gears (teeth and tongue) so that the whole machine can produce words.  It also reminds listeners to slow down for a smooth and steady ride!

For children in speech therapy communication, difficulties are often an embarrassment and a source of negative "self-talk."  This song puts communication in a personal and positive context and helps the child internalize the positive message that I am a powerful word makin' machine.
