Lyrics
When I say a word with the "L" sound
Where's the tip of my tongue?
Where's the tip of my tongue?
On the l-l-lid of my mouth
Where's the tip of my tongue?
On the l-l-lid of my mouth
Limes last longer
Let’s live life
O.K., when I say a word with the "t" sound
Where's the tip of my tongue?
Where's the tip of my tongue?
On the back of my t-t-teeth
Where's the tip of my tongue?
On the back of my t-t-teeth
Two tummy tickles
Time to talk
When I say teeth
When I say mouth
My tongue’s allowed to come out
Teeth and mouth
Where's the tip of my tongue?
Somewhere in my mouth
Tips for Parents
- Ask your child, "How many ways can you move your tongue?"
- Have your child warm-up for this song like an "opera singer" with an enthusiastic "LA-LA-LA-LA!"
- During the parts of the song that emphasize /l/, hold your index finger and thumb in an L-shape at the corner of their mouth, tapping your face along with the beat. During the /t/ part of the song, tap their index finger on their top lip in time with the music.
- When singing the /l/ parts of the song, roll your hands in front of you (like The Wheels on the Bus). When singing the /t/ parts, clap along with the beat.
- Let Your Light Shine Through- Give your child a flashlight to hold under their chin. Turn the light on each time someone says an /l/ or /t/ or "th" sound as in “Let Your Light Shine Through” or other words/phrases that use these sounds.
- Tongue as a Clock Pendulum- Have your children move their tongue back and forth as you say, "tic…toc…tic…toc.”

This song is used to target oral-motor awareness and practice intentional tongue movement. Some children have difficulty feeling where their tongue is, or planning where their tongue is going when they're making speech sounds. They may benefit from activities that practice intentional tongue movement and placement during meaningful speech activities. It is important to stress the need for practice during "meaningful speech activities" as there is mounting evidence to suggest that non-speech oral motor exercise will not produce speech changes.
