Tips for Parents
Ask your child, "What makes you feel proud inside?"
Using a flash light, take turns sharing what makes you proud, shining the flashlight on each other like a spot light.
During the spelling of L-I-G-H-T, flash your fingers open and shut to the beat of the letters.
In this song children take each letter of the word, light, and symbolically put it inside. When it's inside they substitute a "bling" for that letter until all the letters are inside and there are five "blings." Jump once for each "bling."
Try singing this song when a child may need some encouragement or a "pick me up."
Light It Up - Use pen lights or flash lights to put a light inside a balloon, a pumpkin, a folded piece of paper. Discuss how these things look and feel better when they have their light on inside. Having a "shine" inside means feeling proud and special.
Shining Portraits - Have your child draw a picture of themselves doing something they are proud of. Make glitter, sequins and other sparkles to decorate their "shining portrait." Comment how when you feel proud inside, you SHINE on the outside!
