Young children are intrigued by their abilities and frustrated by their limitations.  This song celebrates the wonders of their bodies and the things their body parts can do.  This song promotes the important behaviors of initiative including:

  • Doing things for himself
  • Trying or asking new things or activities
  • Saying positive things about the future

Lyrics
I've got two (clap, clap) helping hands
I've got two (clap, clap) helping hands
They may be small, but they do what they can
I've got two (clap, clap) helping hands

I've got two amazing arms
I've got two amazing arms
They'll hug you, help you, and keep you from harm
I've got two amazing arms

I've got two awesome ears
I've got two awesome ears
I listen to the wonderful things that they hear
I've got two awesome ears

I've got two (stomp, stomp) funny bone feet
I've got two (stomp, stomp) funny bone feet
They skip and jump and run down the street
I've got two (stomp, stomp) funny bone feet

I've got two sparkling eyes
I've got two sparkling eyes
They see everything in the earth and the skies
I've got two sparkling eyes

Tips for Parents

  • Ask your child, "What special things can you do with you hands?"  (also ask about, arms, ears, feet and eyes) and "If your hands, arms, ears, feet and eyes had super powers, what would they be able to do?"
  • Helping Hands - Begin clapping individually, then the second time with "high fives" each other
  • Amazing Arms - Flex arm muscles and make weightlifter grunts
  • Awesome Ears - Pull on ear lobes while singing WAH-WAH
  • Feel Good Feet - Stomp feet
  • Sparkling Eyes- Point to eyes and blink
  • Mirror Music - Take turns singing and acting out the song in front of a full-length mirror increasing their body awareness.
  • Mirror Faces - Look into the mirror together and talk about how their faces are the same or different.  Have them make faces portraying different emotions.

The Power of Children’s Music to Build Social-Emotional Skills

Growing Sound develops music and other products that translate key findings from recent child development research into practical and entertaining products for teachers, parents, and children. Founded in 2007 as a new venture of Children, Inc., our products stimulate social and emotional development in a way that is fun for young children. While many products focus on managing children’s problem behaviors, Growing Sound is a proactive, strength-based approach to helping children discover the goodness in their lives and in themselves.

As genuine breakthroughs in child development research increase there is a widening gap between what researchers know and what many parents and teachers practice. Parents and teachers want to optimize their child’s development but they lack the time and expertise to digest the growing volume of research. Growing Sound answers this need by providing a line of products that distills the research into practical and fun activities for home and school.

Children love our products because they are fun. Parents and educators love our products because they help teach children key skills of resiliency like persistence, initiative and self-control. Growing Sound is committed to putting our products into the hands of as many motivated teachers and parents as possible and to make children here and around the world ready for school and ready for life.
