Tips for Parents

Ask your child to name animals that live on a farm and to make each animal's sound.
Use the internet to learn the ASL signs for some of the animals and help your child produce the signs as they sing the words.
Who Am I? - Let your child produce a farm animal sound and guess what animal she's imitating.
Help develop your child's concept of categories by discussing other groups other than farm animals. Talk about foods (i.e. fruits, veggies), colors, shapes, cars, etc. These conversations are easy to hold during daily activities such as meal time, dressing, and bath-time and car rides.

Many of our youngest learners, especially those with developmental or communication disabilities, need to have songs that target the basics and can be sung slowly. Although the lyrics are simple, they still address the concept of categorization (farm animals) and the association of sounds with the corresponding animals. The concept of "farm" is repeated several times, and there is ample time for the children to contribute their own animal sounds.
