The Beautiful Baby Wonderful Child songs celebrate the powerful connection between a mother and infant.  This important connection is the secure base from which the toddler begins to explore their world. While these songs were written with mothers in mind, they can be used just as effectively with fathers, grandparents and other caregivers.

Attachment is a mutual strong and long-lasting relationship between a child and a significant adult such as parents, family members, and teachers.  When a sense of attachment is secure both children and adults act in ways that enhance and strengthen the relationship.

Securely attached children engage in the following behaviors most of the time:

  • Act in a way that makes adults smile or show interest
  • Respond positively to adult comforting when upset
  • Act happy or excited when a parent returns after being away
  • Show affection for familiar adults
  • Ask adults to play or read
  • Trust familiar adults and believe what they say
  • Seek help from children/adults when necessary
  • Show an interest in what children/adults are doing
